Advantek
provides incisive, cost effective design solutions that can meet the
most challenging client requirements without breaking the construction
budget. This is especially important for energy projects, which have
performance and economic criteria that must both be met, for example, “35-percent
savings within a 3-year payback period.” Advantek Consulting, a licensed
Engineering firm, typically provides conceptual (10%) and partial (30%)
designs and CSI-format specifications for projects utilizing advanced
or complex equipment, systems and/or control sequences.
- Energy efficient humidity-control & ventilation
systems design
- High performance HVAC system design and control
sequences
- Chiller plant renovation and optimization
- Super efficient ENERGY STARTM and GREEN
BUILDINGTM design
- Laboratories, ISO-14644/ FS209 clean spaces,
and biohazard containment
- Energy efficient compressed-air system design
- Solar, wind, biogas, and distributed energy
systems design and application
- Integrated digital building control system
design
- Commissioning of HVAC and building automation
systems

After
a series of investigations by other firms, the cause of excessive
humidity at the Alachua County Corrections Center was finally determined
by Dr. West using detailed data acquisition and computer modeling
tools. The elusive nature of the root-causes was due to several factors,
none of which alone was enough to explain the problem. Acting together,
this combination resulted in humidity levels of 70 to 90% rh. Causes
included pressure imbalances within the building, mis-calibrated
damper actuators, and control system programming oversights. An adjust,
balance, and commissioning specification was developed and engineering
oversight ensured that every detail of the specification was properly
implemented. Due to this attention to detail, an airflow problem
was traced to a measurement error by the TAB contractor. Humidity
levels are now maintained below 60% rh and the County is enjoying
energy savings of about $80,000 per year.
